Background to Cambourne West

Taylor Wimpey and Bovis Homes have been involved since the inception of Cambourne, bringing forward the three linked villages of Greater Cambourne, Lower Cambourne and Upper Cambourne. In 2011 there were just under 2,500 households in Cambourne.

In Spring 2014 SCDC submitted their Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate for an Examination in Public. At the start of Summer 2015 the examination was suspended and the Inspector asked SCDC and CCC to undertake further assessments in relation to their housing numbers. Minor amendments have now been made to the plan which is out for public consultation from 2nd Decemeber until 25th January.

The SCDC Local Plan has identified land at Cambourne West as a good location for new homes. At present the plan allocates only part of the proposed site for 1,200 new homes. However MCA believes that the development of the full site, which can provide up to 2,350 new homes, will in the long term be more beneficial to Cambourne.

The additional houses provided will go further to meet local housing need. A development of this size will also bring forward two new primary schools along with a new secondary school, and other additional services which will provide greater choice for new and existing residents. The fourth linked village will increase the footfall along the high street which should help to attract a greater range of shops and services to the area.
